The Last Of Us title sequence has been featured by Art of the Title, the leading online resource of title sequence design, spanning the film, television, conference, and videogame industries. It includes a fascinating discussion with Naughty Dog Creative Director Neil Druckmann, Title Sequence Director/DP Kevin Joelson, and Title Design Director Henry Hobson. The majority of the shots have been achieved in camera using macro photography to film sponges, ink and compressed air in slow motion.

The artwork from the immensely succesful The Last Of Us just keeps on coming, demonstrating just how much hard work and talent it takes to create a ‘triple A’ game. We’ve already seen how the infected characters have been developed in The Last Of Us Development Series, but now we can take a closer look at the ZBrush sculpting work of Mike Svymbersky.

Mike Svymbersky worked with Naughty Dog to model the fungicidal zombies as well as helping to create the games’ gore systems. Nice.

Into the Pixel, “An Exhibition of the Art of the Video Game” have announced the 16 winners of the 2013 competition. The games featured in the winning entries include The Last Of Us, Dragon Age III, Assassin’s Creed IV, Rayman Legends and Destiny, which managed to claim two places in final line-up.

Autodesk have uploaded a fascinating presentation by Judd Simantov on the character rigging and modelling techniques used by Naughty Dog in the upcoming survival action game, The Last of Us.

Judd Simantov, 3D artist and Co-founder of Game Character Academy, presents his work on Naughty Dog’s latest project, The Last of Us. His presentation shows the techniques he used in modeling and rigging the game’s primary characters, and he covers special considerations for artists who want to maximize realism and evoke an emotional response from players.

Naughty Dog have released the second in their Development Series for the upcoming PS3 game, The Last of Us. Titled Wasteland Beautiful, it is a look at the post-apocalyptic style environments from initial concept art through to moody lighting of each scene. The ‘overgrown cities’ theme has long been a fascination for artists and movie makers alike, imagining how nature would take back the urban jungle after mankind has gone. The dev team in the Santa Monica based studio clearly relished the chance to express their creative take on the genre.

The Last of Us is genre-defining experience blending survival and action elements to tell a character driven story about a population decimated by a modern plague. Cities are abandoned and being reclaimed by nature. Remaining survivors are killing each other for food, weapons and whatever they can find. Joel, a ruthless survivor, and Ellie, a young teenage girl who’s braver and wiser beyond her years, must work together to survive their journey across what remains of the United States.

Naughty Dog are releasing a series of development videos that will pull back the curtain on our design, our technology, and our ideas that shape The Last of Us. This first video reveals the idea behind the fungus infection that has jumped from insects to humans. An intriguing idea compounded by the wonderful concept art and modelling on display in The Last Of Us game.

Naughty Dog have released a 15 minute gameplay trailer for the highly anticipated Last Of Us. As you would expect from the creators of the Uncharted series, it look amazing. Beautiful environments, lighting and character animation combine to offer a truly immersive experience. The only downside being that it’s another PS3 exclusive. I really am going to have to get one.
