Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate is a 2.5D Metroid-style exploration game for handheld devices created by Armature Studio and WB Games. It features comic strip style motion graphics which were animated from the cinematic illustrations created by Calum Alexander Watt

These were all generated in Sketchbook Pro, then each element grouped up to be later animated and given some much needed VOOOM by the good folk at Armature studio.

There is an interview on CG Record with Piotr Jaworowski the Executive Creative Director at Warsaw based agency, Ars Thanea, where he details how two giant illustrations were prepared for the world premier of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. Commissioned by Ubisoft, for a promotional event featuring skyscrapers covered with gigantic the printouts, more than a dozen people worked on the project for about two months.

We started with the sketch Ubisoft had sent us, and expanded it using our creativity … then it was the standard process: we made a composition, 3D and corrections. But it was the size, and the amount elements that proved to be the hardest part to work on. Both scenes are very complicated composition-wise. There is an immense number of details in this illustration. We modelled them all in 3D: elements of the ship, ropes, human figures. Flags and masts are fabric simulations.

The internet is awash with news of leaked concept art from Bungie’s follow-up to the all-conquering Halo 4. Bungie have confirmed the new game, called ‘Destiny’, over on IGN. The artwork reflects Bungie’s aim “to create a universe as deep, tangible and relatable as that of the Star Wars franchise.” They feature overgrown ruins of earths infrastructure and organic, almost steampunk looking alien vehicles. The most striking image is the giant alien spaceship hovering over earth. A white moon-like sphere, possibly under construction? That’s no moon!
