Atomhawk Design have created artwork for games such as Devil May Cry, Dead Island, Driver: San Francisco and Mortal Kombat. They have now announced plans to create their own game and released some stunning artwork to herald their foray into game development, along with a sumptuous logo for the fantasy game The Realm. Furthermore they have launched through a Kickstarter campaign, allowing you to buy into the project.
You can see some of their concept art below, featuring character and environments, as well as watch the campaign video which contains animations, potential gameplay footage, some behind the scenes shots and interviews with the talented folks at Atomhawk.
Naughty Dog are releasing a series of development videos that will pull back the curtain on our design, our technology, and our ideas that shape The Last of Us. This first video reveals the idea behind the fungus infection that has jumped from insects to humans. An intriguing idea compounded by the wonderful concept art and modelling on display in The Last Of Us game.
Bungie have announced that they are developing Destiny for PS4 and PS3 as well as releasing two videos featuring the first gameplay footage and some striking new concept art to add to the previously leaked material. The artwork proved so inspiring to Russian designer Ilya V. Boykov he created his own Destiny art in motion animated trailer.
PLATIGE Image, the Warsaw based Visual Effects house, have uploaded a great deal of development material from Cyberpunk 2077 on their Behance page. The videogame developed with CD Projekt RED is based on the work by Mike Pondsmith in the 80’s and 90’s. The original inspiration for the story was his desire to recreate the technology and dark, film noir style of Blade Runner. That influence in the game artwork is unmistakable. Take a look through the concept art, character at, environment art, 3D work and some nice user interface graphics as well.
Far Cry 3 character art created by concept artist Bruno Gauthier for Ubisoft Montreal. There is some great artwork here with a real sense of personality being expressed by the characters. Note the intricate tattoo art on several of the characters as well. Bruno has worked on several games in the past, most notably Splinter Cell Conviction (see here, here and here).
While we’re looking at Far Cry 3 you might also want to check out the Kotaku article on Far Cry 3 scrapped ideas concept art. Maybe we’ll see some of this as downloadable content in the future? Read more »
The internet is awash with news of leaked concept art from Bungie’s follow-up to the all-conquering Halo 4. Bungie have confirmed the new game, called ‘Destiny’, over on IGN. The artwork reflects Bungie’s aim “to create a universe as deep, tangible and relatable as that of the Star Wars franchise.” They feature overgrown ruins of earths infrastructure and organic, almost steampunk looking alien vehicles. The most striking image is the giant alien spaceship hovering over earth. A white moon-like sphere, possibly under construction? That’s no moon!
I recently discovered Evolution Studio’s Concept Source blog via Evo Art Director Simon O’Brien. It hosts a large selection of concept and character art from the past decade featuring an array of talented artists including Rachel Norton, Alex Figini, Steve Hird and Paul Dolan. The work covers the current Motostorm franchise as well as the old World Rally Championship series. Go and take a look.
